Agentic Dashboarding: Designing Dashboards Around Agents

Agentic dashboarding is the discipline of designing dashboards for and with AI agents. It covers two related tasks: monitoring the agents an organization operates, and letting agents assemble and maintain dashboards for human audiences. Both tasks treat the dashboard as part of an agentic system rather than a separate reporting tool.

The practice draws on several elements of agentic AI. Agent memory determines what an agent recalls about earlier requests. Guardrails set limits on what it may show or change. Observability records its reasoning steps, tool calls and outcomes. Design decisions include which autonomy level is appropriate and where a human confirms a step before it takes effect.

For senior leaders, agentic dashboarding provides a structured way to apply risk management to agent operations. Frameworks such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework describe governance functions that dashboards can make visible, including measurement of system behavior and documentation of responsibilities.
